I can confirm that Toms funeral arrangements are Friday 3rd February at West Bromwich Crematorium at 1 P.M, and after at M & B Portland Road. If you wish to go from Tom’s house it leaves at 12.15. If you need details of Toms address please contact me.  W & W Management Committee.

09/07/2011  Important message from John Woodcock MP...

Protection of Bowling Greens Bill – Update and lobby of parliament on 13 July – from John Woodcock MP

I wanted to update you on progress regarding my bill to protect bowling greens since its introduction in parliament – and to urge you to attend a lobby of parliament on Wednesday 13 July.

I have been heartened by the level of support the bill has received both within parliament and beyond. My office has received messages of support from every corner of the country and many accounts of greens under threat.

Since introducing the bill, I have had the opportunity to raise the issue of bowling greens under threat on The One Show, on the Jeremy Vine show and, most importantly, on Talkingbowls radio. There has been coverage in the Daily Mirror, the Independent, the Sunday Telegraph, as well as in regional and local press across the country.

The bill has been supported by organisations including the British Crown Green Bowling Association CLICK HERE , Bowls England and the Sports & Recreation Alliance CLICK HERE
Forty-five MPs from across the Commons have supported my Early Day Motion backing the principles of the bill CLICK HERE

Unfortunately, it is now clear that the date nominated for second reading of the Bill (2 July) will not be a sitting day, so it will be necessary to nominate a new date. I intend that this should be around the start of the bowling season next year.

It is important to note that the bill itself is only one possible route to get more protection for bowlers - ministers could agree to enact the proposals in my bill at any time before then, and I am pressing for meetings to secure agreement from them.

In the meantime, it is important that we keep up the pressure and show the level of concern there is over the future of our bowling greens.

I am therefore urging as many people as possible to attend a lobby of parliament starting at 11am, Wednesday 13 July, where bowlers can seek to meet their MPs to raise this issue, and hopefully we can hold an impromptu game of bowls on College Green outside Parliament. Bowling campaigners will be meeting on College Green, across the road from the visitor entrance to Parliament at 11am to kick off the day. Bring your woods!

If you would like to arrange to meet your MP on 13 July to raise local bowling issues, it is a good idea to make an appointment in advance. As this is a Wednesday, most MPs are likely to be in parliament. You can find who your MP is here: http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/ . The MP’s contact details will be on the website and the House of Commons on 0207 219 3000 will be able to put you through to their office. Simply state that you are attending a lobby of parliament to demand more protection for bowling greens as outlined in my ten-minute rule bill and early day motion [INSERT NUMBER] and would appreciate a short meeting in the House of Commons to outline your concerns.

I hope to see as many as possible of you there! Please get in touch with Bowls England or the British Crown Green Bowling Association to discuss the lobby further.
